Overview
PharmAust Limited is a unique pharmaceutical business involved in a range of activities from contract drug discovery & development to product manufacturing, as well as sales & marketing of healthcare and pharmaceutical products. PharmAust Limited wholly owns two subsidiary companies:
- Epichem Pty Ltd http://www.pharmaust.com/epichem_about.asp provides contract chemistry services along with its own intellectual property-generating research activities.
Pharmaust owns 39.5% of Commonwealth Biotechnologies a Nasdaq listed company. Commonwealth Biotechnologies Inc (CBI) specializes in life sciences R&D outsourcing and offers cutting edge expertise and a complete array of the most current synthetic and analytical technologies in the areas of biodefense, laboratory support and contract research. CBI is well positioned to compete in the global market for drug discovery outsourcing with an experienced management team and highly trained scientific staff located in a world-class laboratory in Richmond, Virginia. History
In mid 2004, the new Directors of PharmAust Limited embarked on a strategy to develop a vertically integrated company focused on the development, manufacture and supply of a range of high value patent-expired and over-the-counter medicines (including generics), and specialised hospital lines. In October 2004, PharmAust successfully raised $5.5 million with a view to developing and expanding its drug discovery and drug manufacturing businesses in Australia and South East Asia. In late 2004 PharmAust also completed the purchase of Ramprie Laboratories, a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant with a long history of producing Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods-listed pharmaceuticals. To complement the existing drug discovery and synthetic chemistry business, Epichem, in March 2005 PharmAust acquired Melbourne-based discovery chemistry company, Mimotopes Pty Ltd. Established in 1988, Mimotopes provides products and services in discovery chemistry to the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The company is housed in a state-of-the-art facility located in a technology precinct adjacent to Monash University in Victoria. Mimotopes was sold for a 39.5% stake in Commonwealth Biotechnologies Inc.
